Easy to make at home, they can be enjoyed as a snack or dessert, paired with a Japanese green tea or a light coffee.

Ingredients

  • 100 g flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 8 g matcha powder
  • 60 g unsalted butter (softened)
  • 70 g sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 60 ml milk

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 170°C.
  • Line a muffin tin with paper liners.

Mix the dry ingredients

Sift together the flour, baking powder, and matcha.

Prepare the batter

  • In a bowl, beat the butter and sugar until the mixture is creamy and light.
  • Add the egg and mix well.
  • Incorporate half of the dry ingredients, then half of the milk. Mix gently.
  • Add the remaining dry ingredients and milk, and mix until a smooth batter is formed.

Baking

  • Divide the batter into 6 molds.
  • Bake in the oven at 170°C for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Since matcha tends to brown quickly, check the baking after 10 minutes. If the top colors too quickly, lower the temperature slightly.
  • Check for doneness with a toothpick: it should come out clean.

Finishing touches

  • Let the cupcakes cool down.
  • Decorate as desired: whipped cream, fresh fruit… A dusting of matcha powder on top will make them look even more elegant.

✨ Tip
Do not overbake in order to preserve the beautiful green color and the aroma of the matcha. These cupcakes are perfect for a tea break or to surprise your guests!
